In this guide we are using the plain meta-erlang layer to build the rabbitmq server.

The recipe rabbitmq builds the rabbitmq server using the crosscompile approach. Each rabbitmq release has a specific combination of supported Erlang and Elixir. You can check which version is supported here: RabbitMQ Erlang Version Requirements .

As a final result, we are able to run an embedded rabbitmq using qemu.

Follow the quickstart guide to get a basic working environment and then:

  • Add erlang and elixir preferred version conf/local.conf.

  • Add rabbitmq-server package to IMAGE_INSTAL in conf/local.conf
IMAGE_INSTALL:append = " rabbitmq-server"
  • Now its time to build the image:
bitbake core-image-minimal
  • And check the results with qemu:
runqemu core-image-minimal kvm nographic qemuparams="-m 1024"

After qemu boot, we can check if rabbitmq-server is up and running:

The rabbitmq recipe creates a system user called rabbitmq. All administrative rabbitmq commands should be done using that user.

For example, to enable the Management Plugin do like following:

su - rabbitmq
root@qemux86-64:~# rabbitmq-plugins enable rabbitmq_management

So, restarting the server as:

systemctl restart rabbitmq-server

Now, rabbitmq is ready for further explorations. The dashboard can be accessed via http://192.168.7.2:15672
